NAMA: The Only Show in Town or Criminal Theft?
The Government has proposed a National Assets Management Agency as a solution to the banking crisis. Its supporters describe is as “the only show in town” but increasing numbers of critics are calling it the biggest theft ever perpetrated on the Irish taxpayer.
David McWilliams hosts a panel including Green Party finance spokesperson Senator Dan Boyle; banking expert Peter Matthews; Margaret E. Ward of The Irish Times; and Government representatives to explain the plan and allow the audience separate the fact from the fiction.

I may yet attend a Leviathan event David. Would be either vitalising or depressing! A bit like the ’69 movement who thought they were changing the world. But without being too pessimistic, NAMA is like Brian Lenihan breaking the bad news that the Land Annuities problem hasn’t gone away and the British want their pound (no pun intended) of flesh. The source of my pessimism comes from 2 angles. 1) The whole implementation seems to be extremely protracted. Much bigger and less nimble administrations than ours have put in place their plans much quicker. 2) Alternatives were not even considered. Maybe they would not be practical, but in these circumstances we find ourselves in, we should give every option a fair hearing. 3) I think the people now feel completely powerless.
