Mega-successful McGregor a model for our economy

The extraordinary pulling power of Conor McGregor can be measured in a few ways: by ticket sales, by pay-per-view revenue, and by endorsements. However, a much more instructive modern metric is the use of pornography. And it looks like McGregor porn beats regular porn hands down!

According to ‘Men’s Health’ magazine, during the McGregor fight, Pornhub (an American porn site) saw its traffic plummet by 21pc in the US alone. World traffic was down by 12pc, while here in Ireland, porn traffic slumped by 11pc.

Once the fight was over, normal service was resumed.

Pornhub’s data indicates that US porn traffic levels rose swiftly between midnight and 1am, hitting their peak around 2am. And, here in the land of saints and scholars, the post-fight relief was explosive.

Let’s just say Irish private web browser windows were busy. Irish porn traffic shot up to 174pc higher than average levels in the hour after the fight. This suggests a novel 21st century take on the expression “drowning one’s sorrows”.

If Conor can alter the porn habits of Irish men and women, he’s much bigger than you even imagined.

And here’s the interesting thing: McGregor understands the game he is in. He is in what economists call the “winner-takes-all” market. He knows that being at the top is where you make the lolly. This doesn’t mean he is much more talented than the guys behind him, it just means when you are at the top, you have to go for it and you can make multiples of the guy behind you.

So in terms of talent, Conor (despite the public bravado) would probably privately admit that there’s not a huge amount between him and other fighters below him. They are all good fighters. But he is the superstar and that’s the difference.

He has harnessed the technology, the media, the celebrity and, ultimately, the terms of the purse.

Traditionally in entertainment and sport, we see the rewards for being number one (or close to the top) as many multiples compared to those in the middle. Think of footballers; the difference in wages and bonuses between those who make it to the very top and those who don’t is enormous.

It can be the difference between never having to work again and a life on the dole. The differences between two promising footballers can be minute but the chasm between success and failure is infinite. One stops porn; the other watches it.

Years ago, these “winner-takes-all” markets were the preserve of entertainers and sportspeople; these days such disparities in pay and rewards are becoming more prevalent in many industries and professions. In the US, CEOs of top corporations now earn more than 500 times as much as the average worker, up from only 35 times in the mid-1970s.

The same goes for music, and increasingly in law, dentistry, medicine, architecture, investment banking, consulting, journalism, corporate management, publishing, design, fashion, and a host of other professions. Although the details vary in different spheres, the common thread is that technical forces have enabled top performers to serve broader or more valuable segments of their respective markets.

In sport and entertainment, it was always understood that deciding to try to make it in these careers was a bit like buying a lottery ticket. If you win, you could make hundreds of times more than if you had chosen a less risky career. If you lose, however, you earn much, much less.

Today, many professions work in a winner-takes-all fashion – arguably without much of the downside risk. So the best lawyers get paid multiples of the average lawyer’s earnings. The best accountants do likewise.

Look at Ireland’s legal profession in the Four Courts. There are those who make fortunes, and there are those who just scrape by. Even in education, grind schools poach better teachers and pay them considerably more than the local school equivalents.

The reason for this is the hyper-competitive economy we live in. The stakes in every game have been raised. If the best barrister can increase the likelihood that you will win the case, then he or she is worth the money.

Likewise, if the best teachers can give your child a comparative advantage and a place in college, then they are worth the price. Similarly, if the best carpenter will make you furniture that you feel will distinguish you from your peers, he or she will be worth the price.

It also exists in journalism, where the standout journalist – the one who is better known, a better communicator on TV or radio and therefore, more public – makes more per word than other hacks who might actually be much better writers.

So the winner-takes-all economy, where rewards are skewed ludicrously to number one, embeds itself in society.

Being a mere worker or an average employee is simply not good enough. The entire society becomes obsessed with being number one, having the newest, biggest, brightest, latest car, house or kitchen, because with winner-takes-all rewards come winner-takes-all possessions.

Technology and the dissemination of information have had a huge impact on the growth of this winner-takes-all culture. Networks are crucial. Years ago, word of mouth solidified reputations, today it is communities online.

Think about TripAdvisor and the impact good reviews have on hotels and restaurants. Do you go by them? Lots of people do and they recommend accordingly. So if you are better than the competition, no matter what business you are in, you just don’t make more than the others, you make much more than the others.

In a sense, this is the economics of the 21st century. Networks are coming to dominate the way we are paid if we are self-employed. In the 20th century, pay was determined by qualifications, years in employment, competence and loyalty. These permanent and pensionable jobs, the so-called jobs for life, are gone and in their place come winner-takes-all markets, which are transitory and competitive, but well paid.

Conor McGregor is an extreme manifestation of this. His business model is the model for many businesses in the years ahead. Those who are at the top will get multiples of those just below them.

McGregor understands this game, maybe better than anyone who has gone before him. He has pulling power. After all he is bigger than porn, now that’s saying something!

    an excellent article.

one small oversight. Conor came second in a 2 horse race and still made 100m.

There is no question that the article is very very accurate in situations where one on one competition is the game however there are many areas still where teamwork is more important and a different set of rules apply.

    Regards,

    Michael.

    • Igcuimhne81

Is it sustainable however? If the top dogs are getting the cream and the cherry and sprinkles, whats left for everyone else?
I agree that the article is reflective of the way the economies are working. But I would argue that the insider/outsider theory is somewhat redundant in the face of the reality of the ‘top v the rest of us’. This is reflected here “It also exists in journalism, where the standout journalist – the one who is better known, a better communicator on TV or radio and therefore, more public – makes more per word than other hacks who might actually be much better writers. Income inequality is the issue here and its only getting worse.” At some juncture, those that are ‘better’, will outnumber those those who get the cherry and the cream, and to such an extent that revolt will be inevitable.
Income inequality is at the heart of this article, and its getting worse.

  2. The geezer is a cage fighter for God’s sake.

And U2 are a bunch of hypocrites who have made a so-called ‘career’ out of shit songs for 30 years – they haven’t written a good song since the mid 80s.

People who need role models (no thanks, I don’t) need better ones.

    Subscribe.

    • Deco

Agreed. U2 got far more out of Ireland, than Ireland will ever get out of U2. They use Ireland as a means to open doors all over the world, and promote themselves.

      Over-rated, and under-taxed.

The Revenue Commissioners, have the evidence.

    • Grzegorz Kolodziej

Are you ok down there, Adam (Hurricane Irma)?

Sadly, I have to agree with you on U2. I say sadly because in the first half of the 1980s, U2 really meant a lot to people in Poland (I’d say that they, along Joy Division, were the most popular 1980s band in Poland – Joy Division’s “Closer” LP was, what an irony, pressed and sold on the UK license in Poland right before the Martial Law – and it really hit the street mood). Not only they had this really refreshing post-punk sound – and punk rock was huge in the 1980s Poland! (the annual punk rock festival in Jarocin) but the similarities between the occupation of the north of Ireland and the Russian occupation of Poland were plain to see – and nowhere there were seen better than on their best album, “War” – with “Sunday, Bloody Sunday” devoted to the events of the bloody Sunday (this was played on the Polish radio) and “New Year’s Day” devoted to the events of the Martial Law in Poland (this was banned on the Polish radio until the end of the Martial Law – of course, that alone made it Poland’s most popular song as there is no better promotion of a product than actually banning it, while making it available on the black market).
“New Year’s Day” is an excellent example of how a pop-band can record a heavy song without actually being a heavy-metal band: a thick bassline, a distorted chugging riff that’s actually hidden by the wall of sound; a moody echoey piano.
I remember that I, albeit a child, would get shimmers listening to both songs (while the look of Boy George, played on the Polish TV, would make me feel really uncomfortable – even though I thought this was a girl! – as I, as a child, didn’t know about trannies).
So my expectations when I bought my first ever CD (“The Joshua Tree”) were very high. Unfortunately, this was the first time when U2 lost their relentless drive and working-class freshness and Bono’s histrionics got worse, while his accent started to sound like he had a voice coach or something.
Also, I hated the band becoming more and more pop – all these electronics – the Irish answer to the British progressive pop band UFO.
I think what happened to them was that because “Pride” was such a success, that in “The Joshua Tree” they decided to go more into this direction of dicking around with their instruments, doing a big puffed-up nothing – only they now started to sound a little gay.
Still, “The Joshua Tree” was still a decent album, written at the time when Bono still believed in God rather than believing that he was God.
With the American tour, there came a simplification of their music – no more weird time signatures of ‘Promenade’.
And this is even before going into their recent political views, with Bono now close to believing that the demonic Jaroslaw Kaczynski is planning to build gas chambers for his political opponents.
Poland’s answer to Bono (purposefully done in a Russian accent):

U2′s best song ever? This – BY A MILE:
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rO_V6gD3JTM
(the starting riff and the group singing in the end still give me goose pimps!(followed by “Sunday Bloody Sunday”/”New Year’s Day”/”Rejoice”/”Two Hearts Beat As One” – the latter one triggering such head banging in me that my parents thought I became possessed).

      • Cheers Grzegorz, we are 660 kilometres away from my old stomping ground of Antigua here in Tobago so we just got a little extra rain and rough seas – nothing much though, I was in the sea yesterday.

Antigua and my friends there got lucky – the storm swerved north at the last minute and wrecked its sister island of Barbuda instead.

There’s over a thousand people living there and I would say they will all have to move to Antigua for a while. Robert DeNiro is building a resort on Barbuda (beautiful white beaches) and it was damaged although I don’t think it’s that far into construction as yet.

Here in Tobago we are outside the main hurricane path – we are too far south and sheltered by the South American mainland, although historically Tobago has been hit now and then but not as often as our neighbours to the north.

I will visit Antigua next month and expect it will be fully cleaned up by then as high season (tourists, yachts, yachties etc.) will be in full flow, great fun.

Who needs cage fighting and porn?

        • McCawber

That last question is a worthy one.
          I need sex.
It’s good for my immune system.
          It improves my mood.
          It’s fun.
          I don’t need cage fighting.
I doubt it would be good for my immune system.
It ain’t fun unless of course you get 100m for doing it – nobody is queuing at my door

    • Grzegorz Kolodziej

A striking similarity between the Irish and Polish history – the Irish had their Bloody Sunday, the Poles had their Bloody Monday:

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cz%C4%99stochowa_massacre

  3. My pay per view usage during the McGregor fight: 0%.

My porn (or porno?) usage before, during and after the McGregor fight: 0%.

Some of us have better things to do. Has Irish society sunk so low in its race to the bottom?

Lads, what are your own percentages? Be honest, brutally honest.

    David, what about yours?

    • michaelcoughlan

“Some of us have better things to do. Has Irish society sunk so low in its race to the bottom?”

      An excellent observation.

What the article didn’t say was that the same type of scumbag spending all his time surfing porn is the same type of scumbag mcgregor appeals to and is the same type of half wit liable to shell out 100 dollars to watch mcgregor and whats his name beat the crap out of each other.

In other words it appeals to the base instincts of the target market and is more evidence of the dumbing down of society.

Bet you theses guys are the type donald trump like (another reality tv guru) who will treat their women folk with no more respect than if they were life support systems for their vaginas.

      Michael.

    • coldblow

Well done, Adam. It is a slippery slope and people know instinctively to stay well clear (as with drugs). I only got a computer less than four years ago and one reason I avoided it was that I didn’t want the temptation and I didn’t want it coming into the house anyway. I am old enough to deal with it but it must be difficult for young men and teenagers.

I have been going on a lot about fantasies over the last year and this ties in with it. I am increasingly convinced that it is all connected. Rupert Sheldrake (the scientist who wrote The Science Delusion) mentions it in passing when discussing morphic fields. It might only be the imagination but that is a real thing in a sense that is not obvious.

Do you remember when posters were coming up with ‘five ideas’ to help get us out of the economic problems some years ago on here? You know, when Tim and Wills and others were regulars? The only thing I could think of was that everyone’s income and expenditure be made public, online I suppose. Well I would add to that now their use of internet pornography and drug use. This would really puncture the hypocrisy of saying one thing in public and doing another in private, where nobody can see. And it would be an incentive to behave oneself (although that is a very unfashionable thing to say these days).

      • Grzegorz Kolodziej

        Hi,
I’ve answered your question about Ryszard Legutko and all that jazz :-) – smiley because out of all people on earth, the “all that jazz” expression fits him the least – under the last thread, as thoroughly as I could.

        • coldblow

          Thanks Grzegorz

I printed out the Legutko link (is it the source of your quote from him in the last thread, about pluralism etc?) and all I have to do now is find where I left it.

          • Grzegorz Kolodziej

Yep, my quotes from him in the last thread were sourced from the article in that link (strictly speaking, I had it on my computer and then I found a link when you asked).
I see that his latest book “The Demon in Democracy” has received a lot of published reviews in the Anglosphere, including in the leading US conservative magazine “National Review” – so there are some good things coming out of being a MEP after all ;-).
I’ve also just found an excerpt from that book (the Conclusion):
            http://www.hungarianreview.com/print/20160512_conclusion_excerpt_from_the_demon_in_democracy
I’ve mixed feelings about how popularity is gained and loss – Legutko has been active and writing for the last 30 years, and it’s not like he was an unknown figure outside Poland (i.e. Roger Scruton wrote in the 1990s that he is currently world’s most original thinker) – and yet he only became wider known when he became an MEP as became known as “the man who sits beside Nigel Farage”.

What a decline of our culture that thinkers are known because they sit beside politicians and not politicians become known because they sit beside thinkers :-( – and even when that miraculously happens, their voices are drowned in the noise coming from the ubiquitous shouting clowns (as Nicolas Gomez Davila noticed, “Total freedom of expression does not compensate for lack of talent”).
P.S. I didn’t tell you that as an MEP, Legutko translated a philosophical text from ancient Greek into Polish (he speaks fluent Greek, Latin, English, French, German and Italian) :-)
I’ve also found his short lecture in English (haven’t listened to it yet):
            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdcOwIUnHo8&t=189s

Also, Vaclav Klaus was a very well educated politician – in fact, I reckon that if we disregard Legutko as a politician (he was the Polish Education Minister in Kaczynski’s first government – a post he was very reluctant to take – and that’s all), Klaus was by far the best-educated politician in the EU of the last 30 years (sorry, Leo…).

          • Grzegorz Kolodziej

“an MEP, Legutko translated a philosophical text from ancient Greek into Polish” – I mean, out of boredom and in his breaks, and probably because talking to MEPs is detrimental to your mental health and intellectual capacity (which once again confirms what Gomez Da Villa wrote about the freedom of expression).
Mr Farage, btw, was an excellent speaker, though I’ve always laughed here at his little hypocrisies (such as making fiery speeches in defence of the British fishermen and the same time never bothering to turn up for discussion and voting when their fate was decided in the EU Parliament sub-committees :-).

McGregor is teaching us one thing about ourselves, and sport.

And to me it has long been obvious.

In fact it has been shouting at us for years.

At individual endeavour based sports, we are far better achievers, than at team sports.

Golf is probably the most outstanding example.

But also there was Stephen Roche in cycling.

At individual sports, we excel. At team sports (with the possible exception of two brothers in a rowing boat), we waste a lot of time and money.

So, yes there is a lesson in McGregor.

Stop wasting time and money on team sports.

    • Irelands #1 success in medals was the Boxing team. But they were a collection of individuals.

    • coldblow

I wouldn’t waste it on individual sports either, Deco. A novelist should be able to turn out a masterpiece living penniless in a draughty attic, or so an old boss of mine once said. A sportsman should do it all by himself rather than be funded by others through the state. Britain invested heavily, it seems, in fringe sports including cycling and won dozens of Olympic gold medals. I would hate to see us do the same. It would be like winning the Eurovision.

By the way am I the only one to be concerned by the treatment of Pat Hickey? What exactly has the man done? Deprived the families of Irish Olympic contestants from getting tickets? Is that really such a big deal? I know you used to like Shane Ross but he seems to have really lost his marbles and is riding the wave of hysteria.

  5. Mike Lucey

‘Mega-successful McGregor a model for our economy’ !!!!!!!

David! Have you lost your marbles? How could McGregor’s activity in any way be a ‘good’ (which I take it, you mean) model for our economy?

The ‘“winner-takes-all” system is and has been in play in the world since Cain killed Abel and presumably took Abel’s flock.

What is needed in this economy and others is Direct Democracy by which the sensible majority of citizens can enforce fair play for all, not just the ‘winner-takes-all’ club.

With regard to the correlation between porn viewing and the McGregor fight. Do you not see that both involve violence without rules. I know the fight in question was subject to the ‘Marquess of Queensberry’ rules but McGregor’s fights up to now have been cage fight rules which from what I can see have no rules.

Check this out, ‘How Watching Porn Can Lead to Violence’
    http://fightthenewdrug.org/how-consuming-porn-can-lead-to-violence/

    • michaelcoughlan

“What is needed in this economy and others is Direct Democracy by which the sensible majority of citizens can enforce fair play for all, not just the ‘winner-takes-all’ club.”

No. Well intentioned but misguided. They tried that at the israel kibbutz places and it didn’t work because no one would take responsibility and the whole thing went no where and reverted back to single point responsibility.

      • We just exercised direct democracy on salt Spring Island.

There was a group of business people who wanted to have SS incorporated as a municipality. They solicited 350,000 CAD from the Provincial BC government to pay for a study on the merits of incorporation. After 3 years and 350 pages and a 35 page precis, and a 2 page schematic a referendum was held last Saturday.

Result 62% NO and 38% YES. proposal defeated. This is the second such referendum in 15 years. No doubt we will be assailed by a third in a suitable time. I have not heard of any moves to unincorporate but perhaps that is coming. One of the “benefit” of incorporation turned out to be a negative. The ability of a municipality to borrow!! BUT a municipality must, by law, run a balanced budget. Thus today the excess borrowings of the municipal entity is causing a lack of cash to deliver services.

    • coldblow

By the same token the best looking girls should get the best jobs and not the ugly ones or the feminist ideologues. I’m sure David would support that too. Or if he cannot support it he would have to state it as a fact of life that we should all just accept and ‘deal with’. Yes, I can see that happening.

    • bilimori

Mike, I mistakenly sent some supporting comments on your posting to Deco, I am resending my comments to you……

Last week DMcW was for legalizing drugs, this week he is explaining violence and pornography as being an almost normal aspect of our society.
Mean areas for philosophical discourse as a subset in the larger subject of failed modern economics
There is nothing new in “winner-take-all” economics, previously the winners were called lords, kings, chiefs, popes, tycoons, landowners. Deep Staters all. Modern life with its huge advances in technology and huge increases in population provide vast opportunities for winners and of course the creation of more Deep Staters, to whom all monies eventually flow.
The glorification of McGregor and the vision of huge rewards will lead untold thousands of young men and women in Western Society to try and enter this world of thuggery. The Ultimate winners in this world are the fight promoters, the arena owners, the advertisers and the Internet owners. Deep Staters all. The actual injuries that have resulted and will result are of vast consequence.
Such consequences as are now coming to light in the ultimate domain of Deep Staters- America’s National Football leagues. Whereby hundreds of young athletes have died young or have life long brain injuries.
Pornography, like drugs and legalized violence, is supported by the fringes of society and relies on the exploitation of poor young people. Nothing new in this even the ancient Romans had pornography.
But Mike Lucey is correct, only Direct Democracy, which will cause the latent decency of ordinary people to emerge and rid us of the evils of drugs, legalized violence, and pornographic exploitation.
Heretofore, Direct Democracy has been impossible to achieve. But technology will eventually cause a political and technical revolution whereby the will of the people will be found, empowered and enforced.
It has to happen, Direct Democracy is the only way to bring freedom, justice, and prosperity to the people of this world.
It is my belief that most people (perhaps 80%) hate drugs, tobacco, legalized violence and pornography and when they obtain power will fight and banish such evils. Most of all the people will hate and despise and will then impoverish all practitioners of the Deep State once their depredations are known and understood by a ruling Direct Democracy.
Big Tobacco has won against the people and has killed millions of us, and now in the fields of Drugs, Pornography and Legalized Violence we have the Deep State emulating Big Tobacco’s success through their promotion of these evils in every way possible.
It is easy to become mistakenly, a pawn of the Deep State

  6. Deco

By the way, this is societally beneficial, in the economic sense if the performers stay tax resident in Ireland.

    The McGregor ? Yes.

    The Bonocks ? No.

And at least, McGregor has the decency to not lecture the people what to do with the tax money that they are paying.

McGregor is a better role model than some celebrities.

  7. Deco

I am sitting here thinking about the quote

    [
Being a mere worker or an average employee is simply not good enough. The entire society becomes obsessed with being number one, having the newest, biggest, brightest, latest car, house or kitchen, because with winner-takes-all rewards come winner-takes-all possessions.
    ]

And indeed there is something very Freudian about the entire concept. In fact that is the “rat race” described, in terms of the “rewards”.

And I turned my back on that a long time ago.

Never mind, the show. What about simple, straightforward happiness ?

It is possible (even if it is very difficult) to opt out of the madness, whilst being surrounded by it.

The book “affluenza” describes the phenomenon decribed there. This is being endlessly pumped by the likes of Newstalk radio. Go faster, and harder, go bullsh1ttier, etc..

Let’s be honest here – it does not make the particpants any more wholesome, or happier.

In fact it is highly delusional, and deliberately stigmatizes any behaviour that does not fit the “narrative”, for the people.

Which provides us with even more reasons to deliberately disregard it.

Forget the bling, the noise, and the lights – what will McGregor have to show at the end of it all ?

    Will he be happy ?

  8. I don’t think McGregor really understands all this at a deep level, not saying that he won’t in the future.

But he’s young right now, and is going with the flow.

  9. Deco

By the way, DAvid is correct in respect to the “winner” takes all economic model of performance.

However, for the vast majority of participants, there has to be a comprehension that this means that we cannot all pretend to be McGregors.

McGregor trained hard for his attainments. Anybody who wants to win like McGregor, will need to train and work like McGregor.

The performance of Noreen O’Sullivan in comparison, is the results of an institutional culture, where people can get paid big money, and produce mediocrity.

Is McGregor the antithesis of the institutional state ?

A release valve for thousands of young men, corraled like sheep, and shorn at the end of each pay cheque, so as to provide a nice handy number of the Noreen O’Sullivans of the Irish institutional state ?

    Hi David,

    I have morphed into Adam here;

“In a sense, this is the economics of the 21st century. Networks are coming to dominate the way we are paid if we are self-employed. In the 20th century, pay was determined by qualifications, years in employment, competence and loyalty. These permanent and pensionable jobs, the so-called jobs for life, are gone and in their place come winner-takes-all markets, which are transitory and competitive, but well paid.”

    This company intends to set up a market for freelancers using etherum blockchain to verify their capabilities and ensure payment and in order to be part of the network you have to be able to do the business and be trusted. Adam I am sure will explain if this crowd are valid etc. but it is the way things are going;

    https://chronobank.io/#laborx

  11. michaelcoughlan

    Hi David,

    I have morphed into Tony Brogan here;

Winner takes all? The winners (banks) take all through controlling the creation of fiat currency. And in a winner takes all scenario one side loses (the rest of humanity). So the idea that the best talent gets the goddies is nonsense.

The people who can live with mowing all the rest of us down and still get a nights sleep ie. corporate psychopaths are the guys getting the money.

Talent required, Urbane, short sighted, blindingly ignorant, amoral, well dressed, speak with marbles in your mouth, patronising, condescending, duplicitous, inconsiderate, connected, pathological, vain, narcissistic, nasal intonations, shallow, gluttonous, contemptuous etc. etc. etc.

Who comes to mind? (pun intended)

    F*&k me (pun intended)

    Suds.

    • Good one Michael,

I was in the real estate sales business for 32 years. It was well known and stated that the Pareto principle was well at work as far as earnings are concerned. That is, 80% of the earnings would be made by 20% of the practitioners.
The higher income was attained by those with the better skills and who devoted more time and were better organized. Fair enough.

Then in the 1980′s the Gimme, Gimme generation (as I described them) arrived. They were entitled. They wanted, they got. The means justified the ends. Take no prisoners.

I had been a member of a cooperative franchised arrangement who it turned out had only “their” best interests at heart. I, now divested of “that”, affiliated with one other person set out an advertising campaign of competition and service that caught the attention of the public.(people still sing my advertising jingle to me after it last aired over 25 years ago). The two of us made high income in the top 1% of the business. Immediately we were attacked by organized real estate and the major offices who were ” afraid” of our 2 man office.

I receives a series of letters from these companies telling me how they were going to respond if we continued. Essentially, our business model must conform or they would refuse to cooperate with us. Over the next two years we received 126 official letters of complaint from other agencies (There were only about a 100 offices in total) forwarded to us by the local Real Estate board. I responded to all. None went to an official hearing as my responses demolished the arguments that there was no case. However the dirty tricks and innuendo smeared about affected opinion within the industry and the public. When I finally went to a lawyer he told me I had waited too long to to sue. (The whys of that I never followed).

I was fully exposed to the amoral behaviour of people in the industry and also of the general population. There is little ethical behavior. When I retired, although persistently successful, I was glad to leave behind the results of that mind set and having to contend with it daily.

Today I am reminded of the lack of moral behavior by the treatment of Trump by his adversaries. It is animal behavior barely controlled(or is allowed/tolerated) by the rule of law.

The worst always present themselves as the best. BEWARE.

Conor McGregor is who he seems to be and has little pretence excepting the stage play of actions before the fight to drum up more money for attendance. His business like Wrestling is largely theatre; Backed of course by the hard physical training required of a martial arts specialist.
I wonder what percent of his earnings were siphoned off by the parasites of the business who never have to pull on a glove except to hide fingerprints.

Sport is an industry. The nature of employment is changing. Manufacturing is becoming increasingly automated and the middle class professions and work are being targeted by artificial intelligence.

Sport in the UK is an industry worth £23.8 billion and one of the fastest expanding sectors: it holds 450,000 full-time jobs: 10,000 students graduate in sports science annually and the number is rising and they will join a worldwide market in sport.

The Olympics/Paralympics are the shop window of the industry. The sports industry engages a great deal of science, engineering, medical and industrial know-how. In terms of industries: sport now ranks among the top 15 mainstream sectors of the UK economy including telecommunications, legal services and utilities.

The arts industry is even a larger employer: commonly called the Creative Industries – worth £10 million an hour – every hour – every day of 365 days of the year: worth £84.1 billion per year to the UK economy: projected to be worth £100 billion by 2018: it grew by 8.9 per cent in 2014 and it employs 2.8 million people. In many respects it is difficult to separate the UK industry from the US/Oz/Éire/Kiwi/Canuck/South African/Indian/Anglosphere creative industries.

These industries give an indication of future employment trends: we will be doing stuff that machines and algorithms do not do well.

    >The same goes for music
Generally, I agree with David that the world is becoming more winner-takes-all (and, for the record, I think that’s a bad thing) but I disagree about music going that way.
Music in the 20th century was very much winner-takes-all , the superstars got ridiculously rich, but unless you were signed by a record company you were lucky to barely scrape by as a musician.
Now, I see how my son consumes music, and it’s brilliant! Musicians (often teenagers in their bedrooms) create music, and market it via social media to a global audience who download it (and pay) through iTunes or their own websites. The record companies are completely bypassed, meaning that instead of winner-takes-all, a huge number of musicians can make a decent living.
The record companies claim that the music industry is in trouble , but that’s nonsense – it’s just that they are not part of it any more!

But Deco is correct, only Direct Democracy, which will cause the latent decency of ordinary people to emerge and rid us of the evils of drugs, legalized violence, and pornographic exploitation.

It is easy to become mistakenly, a pawn of the Deep State.

Rugby, produces vast numbers of back injuries. Some small. Some significant. And in a certain number of cases, paralysis. And many had injuries also.

There was even a Pravda (RTE) show called “Against the head” which has presumably since been renamed.

Gaelic football produces many injuries, in the shoulder, collar bone, hip, and knee areas. And then there is hurling. And soccer. And horse racing.

And to say nothing about boxing.

But the parallels with rugby are considerable. We even have teenagers taking pain killers before games, so that they can continue playing after they incur injuries.

Even though the point of the pain, is to tell the person to stop. That is madness.

I prefer Ireland up until Liam Brady retired.

The Good old Bad-Days under Eoin Hand was a great Irish team.

            Eoin Hand was :

victim of gross corruption by bent referees

            victim of bad luck

            victim of Eamon Dunphy not being fair in his criticisms ;
Even though Dunphy was immediately evidently correct about Eoin Hand & Irish team & Irish journalists & Irish public interpreting the victory of 1st game of their group — v.s USSR — as confirmation that Rep. of Ire look certain to qualify for Mexico 1986.

unlucky to face truly world class teams in qualifying groups :

            Belgium
            France
            Netherlands

            USSR
            Denmark

Ireland were almost as good as France in talent.
And, France were for some years the best team in the world.

During 1985-1986 we had at least 6 regular players who were truly world-class [ at least in their respective positions ] — Brady, O’Leary, Stapleton, Lawrenson, Whealan,[ I remember Sepp Pontiek emphasising this fact ; But, I forget the 6th player whom he listed ; I think not Beglin although I mention him as world class for his position then ] Beglin, & I dare say Jim McDonagh as world class “international” goalkeeper [ even though he not top level club player ; Now, that is a most intriguing concept ], & Packie Bonner if picked.
And, good international class players in Tony Galvin, Daly, Hughton, Langan, Kevin Moran, inter alia.

Paul McGrath [ World Class ] just breaking into the team.

But, we got blitzkrieged in Norway.
            Ditto in Denmark.

And, finally we had a fantastic performance by Eoin Hand’s team against USSR in Moscow with chance of qualifying for World Cup Finals in the very last game.
            Cascarino in his 1st ever international game — & he but playing for 3rd or 4th Division of English League — was very good ;
He almost put us in the lead a number of times with some brilliant efforts.
But, then we were hit on the break in classic Eastern European style attack.
            So, 1 Nil to Russia.
            .
            Funnily enough ;
I had a big dream about that Irish campaign last night.

Jack Charlton brought necessary determination & some revolutionary beneficial tactics to Irish soccer & world soccer.

So, Eoin Hand, & Jack Charlton, & Johnny Giles too prove that Irish teams can be world class.
            But, per-requisite is the talent.

“Paper Money Eventually Returns To Its Intrinsic Value – Zero” – Voltaire

Set aside all other financial, economic and political concerns continuously shoved in our collective faces by the mainstream media. It’s a distraction – to a large degree intentional.( this includes the antics of the like of Conor McGregor.-TB)

These are the ONLY events that matter right now: this, “China Begins To Reset The World’s Currency System,” and this, “Venezuela Is About to Ditch the Dollar in Major Blow to US: Here’s Why It Matters.”

Once the dollar is no longer regarded or used as the reserve currency, third-world poverty will engulf everyone in this country below the upper half percent wealth stratum…except those who possess a fair amount of physical bullion. I just bought more gold and silver coins from a friend yesterday who had an uncontrollable urge to get their house painted and needed to sell some to me to fund it. It won’t matter what the house looks like in a couple years but they would never take my word on that.

The level of assumed entitlement in this country by the middle class is absurd…

All the money and all the banks in Christendom cannot control credit…Money is gold and nothing else – JP Morgan’s 1912 Congressional testimony on “the justification of Wall Street”

Trump has suggested permanently removing the Treasury debt-ceiling. The Treasury debt-ceiling is the last remaining barrier to the ability of the Fed and the Government to create an infinite amount of fiat currency. Debt that is issued behaves exactly like printed currency until that debt is repaid. The non-repayment and continued issuance of the amount of debt outstanding is the critical point to understanding this concept. Since the early 1970’s, the Treasury debt outstanding has grown continuously.

Printed Treasury certificates created in this manner behave no differently than printed currency. This is a reality that economists completely ignore. Most analysts who think they understand monetary economics look upon this concept with disdain. The continuous issuance of an increasing amount of credit of any type is no different that outright currency printing (until the amount of outstanding credit is paid off, which it never has been since the demise of Bretton Woods in 1971).

Removing the debt-ceiling gives the U.S. Government, in conjunction with the Fed, the power to print an unlimited amount of Treasury notes. Historically, a large portion of these notes have been funded with recycled petro-dollars. The “QE” implemented by the Fed funded $2.5 trillion of the Treasury issuance. I don’t know where the funding for the next round will come from unless the Fed prints a lot more money. I suspect it will. The price of gold (and silver) spiked-up on Friday in correlation with the announcement of Trump’s proposal. That’s your warning shot…

Do you mean the banks have no reserves at all or that loans have 100% backing by reserves. Please clarify.
Also please tell where the information is obtained.

There are many commentators doing calculations indicating that banks reserves are not 10:1 as commonly believed but 20, 30, or even 50:1.

They also speculate that the reserves actually held are in fact loans from the Central bankers as the central bank acts as the lender of last resort.

It is reliably reported that Comex sells and buys futures contracts that involve physical bullion sales that are as much as 350 times the bullion held to cover the contracts. This could be considered the equivalent of having issued contracts to sell what does not exist. That is the contact has no substance to back it, similar to fractional reserve banking with 0.3% reserves.
Then there is JP Morgan and others who regularly dump bare naked shorts on the silver market to drive down the silver price of the silver bullion. Like hundreds of tonnes of silver is sold in a minute or two in just the way someone would do if the did not want to get the best price on the sale but wanted to flood the market.
Bare naked selling is making a contract and selling what is not owned.
The banksters are up to all kinds of tricks. All this is illegal but the regulators turn a blind eye. When you are an agent of the government you can do anything the government wishes you to. Governments think that as they make the laws they are above the law. This will prove to have been and is an error.

Trump has 5 positions on the Federal reserve board to fill within 6 months. He can singlehandedly change monetary policy . We will see what happens!!.
      ———————————————————-

      London, England
      September 11, 2017

      Jim Rickards
      Dear Reader,

Donald Trump has the opportunity to appoint a higher percentage of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve system at one time than any president since Woodrow Wilson.

President Wilson signed the Federal Reserve Act during the creation of the Fed in 1913 when they had a vacant board. At that time, the law said the secretary of the Treasury and the comptroller of the currency were automatically on the Fed’s board of governors. But besides that, President Wilson selected all five of the other participating members.

Now Trump has the opportunity to fill more seats on the Fed’s Board of Governors than any president since then.

That’s pretty amazing when you think about it.

To review, the Federal Reserve’s Board of Governors is made up of seven appointees. That means that they can make a majority decision with four votes. If you’re reading about the Fed, you might also see reference to “regional reserve bank presidents.” These are roles within the Federal Reserve System, but the real power is found on seven-member Board of Governors.

      Here’s the remarkable part:

As of last week, four of the seven Fed board seats are now vacant.

In fact, I’m describing a 72-hour span last week as the most momentous three-day period in the entire history of the Federal Reserve (see below for all the details).

Trump will own the Fed. Meaning, whatever the president wants monetary policy to be, he’ll get.

In other words, Donald Trump will be able to shape the Fed’s majority.

Trump will own the Fed. Meaning, whatever the president wants monetary policy to be, he’ll get. In other words, Donald Trump will be able to shape the Fed’s majority.
But the tricky part is figuring out how he plans to shape it…

During the campaign season, Trump called China and other nations currency manipulators. That signaled he believed the dollar was too strong and wanted it to weaken. But then the North Korean nuclear crisis rose to the fore.

Trump backed off his threats against China because China has the most economic influence over North Korea, and Trump wanted China to use that leverage to convince the North to back off its nuclear program.

But China didn’t deliver as Trump had hoped, and a trade war with China is now likely. This probably leads many to believe that Trump will appoint a lot of “doves” to the Board.

But don’t be surprised if Trump goes with a hard-money board. In fact, that’s what I expect. These will be hard-money, strong-dollar people, contrary to a lot of expectations. Trump advisers include hard-money advocates like Dr. Judy Shelton, David Malpass, Steve Moore and Larry Kudlow. I expect Trump to heed their advice.

Which brings us to Janet Yellen…

Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen’s term as chair is up at the end of January — less than five months from now. Whoever President Trump appoints to replace her will be subject to Senate confirmation.

Because that process takes time, that means the president will have to name Yellen’s successor around November or December.

In the meantime, a lot of uncertainty over the Fed’s direction will hover over the market, as if there wasn’t enough uncertainty in the market already.

      But one thing is certain:

The next Fed head will have a lot on his plate.

Who do I believe will replace Janet Yellen as Fed chairman? And why did last week contain the most momentous 72-hour period in the Fed’s entire 100-year history? Read on.

      Regards,

Non-Fractional Reserve “Currency creation from Thin Air” Banking = Commercial Banks create currency [ i.e. give loan with interest ( Compound Interest even ) to be paid ] now with NO reserves at all to justify the bank being able to cope with Creditor / Depositor seeking their Credit / Deposit given to Bank.

The process of interference with democracy, at the behest of IBEC, ICTU, Brussels, the US Embassy in Ballsridge, the dominant alco-oligarchy, has been to the total detriment to the entire society.

The first casualty in a lobbying initiative, is truth.

Does that make it a form of [economimc] warfare ? Well, the objectives include control, and resource grabbing – there is a certain equivalence.

  20. Deco

The Noirin O’Sullivan Debacle is insightful, as a study into how long it takes for somebody who is utterly useless to be removed from a state position of power.

The Debacle is further confounded, by the fact that the previous Minister (Fitzgerald) was highly superficial, and regarded every challenge to her Garda Commissioner as an attack on the idea of women holding positions of power.

This implicates them both as being unsuitable for positions of authority.

Given than Varadkar and Kenny tolerated underperformance from both, both Taoisigh are also completely unsuitable for their responsibility.

Small wonder, that the only solace that people find is in a professional beater.

I think Ireland is focussing on competence in the wrong areas.

And of course, ignoring the results because image, and superficiality have been given such a remarkable (and baffling) allocation of esteem, in public life.

    America’s Opoid Crisis.

America is in deep trouble, from the societal perspective.

Maybe the people who are last in the list to be bailed out, have had enough ?

Is the consumerist dream falling apart, in the midst of stealth inflation, wage deflation brought about by deliberate labour market rigging, an overly complex state power system that effectively thieves from some, whilst spoiling others.

    This is a serious problem.

    • Deco

Concerning the losers, is there a path that one can follow when one suddenly finds out that the dream that one assumed to be an entitlement, with it’s warm fuzzy delusions, is played out.

The worst affliction of all is to believe in the unsustainable. That is the same if it concerns a religion (one in the Middle East, comes to mind), or a pattern of consumer pattern, or an ideology (try the USSR in the 1980s).

The credit system merely postpones the inevitable. And people with low credit ratings, are prevented from participating in the illusion.

Hey, presto, they buy a different illusion.

The media will not allow culture to develop / return to it’s pre-illusionary existence.

In fact it seems to me that the point of the entire system is to prevent individual empowerment, and freedom from the dominant believe system – which in the US, is consumerism.

More stuff / experiences that you do not really need, with money that you have not yet earned, to impress people who are not really friends and who really should know better (but don’t).

Most of money-acquisition by men is to impress the beautiful but materialistic women they :
        1.
        wish to get
        2.
        wish to retain
        .
Beautiful women want as much wealth as possible so as to maintain their beauty for as long as possible.

        • Deco

There is a certain element of truth in that. Just look at the celebrity set.

But, is it all not a bit suerpficial.

          What happened to character ?

I suspect that it has been removed, consistently as it threatens the entire consumer-debt model.

Not every woman can be Carla Devigne.

And not every man will be happy marrying a woman like that anyway.

Perhaps the entire beauty obsession, is an attempt to avert the hard work that is necessary to make normal relationships work.

          It is hard work.

    HEADING ;
The Best Solution ? — Ronald Bernard’s Bank of Joy
    .
    September 12, 2017
    .
    ARTICLE ;
Ronald Bernard has not just exposed the pedophile psychopaths running the world, he is taking positive steps to reform banking.
    .
The Bank of Joy is a Dutch initiative to eventually issue an alternative currency and to run a bank that works without charging interest,
and that does not loan out money unless they have it.
    .
    .
Description of The Bank of Joy
    .
“Who are we? B of Joy is a sustainable, cooperative, fair-trade, savings and investment bank. The initiative is of, for and by the people. We ourselves are the change. B of Joy helps with the positive growth of both awareness and the economy, and puts the citizens and society first. Its goals are a just society and a healthy economy. Our starting point is abundance instead of shortages.
    .
    .
    What do we stand for?
    .
Unlike the current banks we do not, as a full reserve bank, lend out more money than we have received. Next to financial returns, B of Joy also gives Ecological, Emotional and Social (F.E.E.S) returns. We invest in local economies, in innovation and in small and medium enterprises. The B of Joy doesn’t only stand for bank. It stands also for Awareness, Citizen and Movement.
    .
As soon as the Movement is big enough, we will instigate referenda, so that citizens can determine policies themselves. For example: in Switzerland all citizens can vote on important issues. B of Joy doesn’t work with bonuses, interest and speculation. B of Joy guarantees sustainable development and a stable economy. We will turn money back into a means of transaction so that it will serve us again.
    .
How will that work in practice?
    .
With our new form of mortgage one will save in 30 years, on a house costing 230.000 euro, an average of 100.000 euro on interest. By eliminating interest we will become the first truly sustainable financial initiative in the Netherlands.
    .
Through the Bail-free saving- and investment program we protect deposits amounting to 100.000 euro or more against the greedy hands of politicians, the EU and banks. The assets will serve society and will be inflation-proof, because we will compensate for inflationary effects on the euro.
    .
B of Joy members will have access to a fixed value currency (URA), a members marketplace, business guide and collective purchasing power. This will promote connections, save on costs and improve turnover. Every member is part-owner, has a say in the cooperative through 1 vote and a right to share in the returns. How can you take part in the realization of this bank ?
    .
For 25 euro or more, you can become a supporter of the initiative and, if you want, a member for the first year free of charge. For 100 euro you are a part-owner of the bank and you will receive a member certificate that in the future can give yield. By taking part, you help create a just society based on abundance. For ourselves, for our children and the future of our world. Will you join us ?”

The Irish football team are talentless and characterless. I don’t watch their matches. They are a disgrace – hoof football is all they know.

Serbia has a slightly larger population than Ireland and Wales has a smaller one and they reached the semi finals of the Euros last year. And look at Northern Ireland.

I’m glad they won’t make it to the World Cup finals next year. At least we’ll be spared the sight of 40,000 pissed grown men dressed as leprechauns singing an insufferable loser’s song while their team produces totally shit football on the field.
    ]

    100% in agreement.

    World champions at self delusion.

One only has to look at the FAI boss, to get the measure of the absurdity of the entire thing. Even when he is sober, he makes no sense whatsoever.

A much better role model, are the two brothers from Cork in the rowing boat, silently and consistently working away, and then producing an achievement.

And they never seem to be bothered about the clown-leprechauns.

The first person they usualy thank is their mother. Which is fair enough. The evidence supports the theory that she did a good job, and that she deserves praise. It is completely un-PC. And it does nothing for sales of the dominant alco-oligarchy which gets whatever it wants from this country, and laughs it’s way to the bank.

I doubt Newstalk need worry about commercial reality anyway. Yes, they ar a private sector entity, but their owner has been the winner from numerous public decisions down the years.

This opens the possibilty that Hook will bring listers with him.

What Hook said about rape was wrong. He apologised.

But is it any worse than pretending that the Moriarty Tribunal never implicated anybody ? [ and who never seem to see the error of their ways ].

Is it any worse than lobbying for the son of a religious “expert” who showed up on stage, in front of a braying mob who wanted to turn Egypt into a sectarian state, and unleash murder and opression on anybody who got in their way ? [ and who continually ignore the wider implications ].

Was what he said about rape wrong? I have read in the papers the text of what said and I don’t see what was wrong. (I can see what the fuss is about but that is another matter.) Perhaps it was not the full text and he said other things that went too far. I am genuinely interested to find out how exactly he transgressed and it could be that I have missed something obvious that others have seen – that is perfectly possible, especially in my case.

I read that he once wrote an erotic novel. That is definitely not a good sign. On the other hand he is one of the very few in the public eye who stands his ground against the liberal totalitarianism. Water was forced out of the Irish Times and Myers was give the boot recently. There is a worrying pattern. Admittedly it could be seen coming from a long way off but it is still a blow when it comes.

But as to what exactly was wrong with what he said I will welcome any comments from the posters here.

It seems that Charlie Flanagan has got involved and called Hook’s comments “dangerous and disrespectful”.

I had wondered what had happened to Rory Connor, whose Irish Salem is invaluable in explaining anticlerical hysteria in this country. He has a separate ‘blogger’ site where I found this story:

        http://irishsalem.blogspot.ie/

About 15 years ago Flanagan had, as a minister, been airing wild conspiracy theories under the cover of Dáil privilege about Nora Wall (the Irish nun convicted of rape (a first in Ireland for a woman) and given a life sentence (another first) until it turned out, through a chance string of events, that her accusers had been lying (and that one of them – unbelievably – had been previously declared an unreliable witness by the DPP – something they forgot about in all the hysteria). His story was similar to one that Paul Williams had written for the Sunday World about Wall where they obviously thought they could make up anything they felt like seeing as she was serving life. Until, that is, her sentence was overturned and the newspaper had to pay out enormous damages..

      • coldblow

Kevin Myers was one of the very few journalists who raised concerns about Wall’s treatment. For what was it again? And Kenny was ousted for what was it exactly? And why is it ‘Leo’ we are now lumbered with? And why was ‘Noirín’ appointed in the first place? As I said earlier, the Irish media are not only worse than useless, they are worse than worse than useless.

      • coldblow

On a somewhat related theme, I had forgotten about this story involving two lawyers cautioned for indecent behaviour (according to one allegation with the woman up against a wall outside Waterloo Station with her knickers around her ankles). Apparently the woman at first accepted the caution but later made a complaint that she had been sexually assaulted. Why? The article claims that by doing so she acquired life-long anonymity.

        .
        BODY OF ARTICLE ;
A woman has claimed she was subjected to a series of offensive questions about her sexual past and drinking habits after bringing an allegation of rape against a senior member of the Socialist Workers Party (SWP).
        .
The UK’s most prominent far left organisation is already facing a major showdown over previous handling of separate rape accusations against a senior party figure – identified by the party only as Comrade Delta. This weekend up to 500 members could quit the Marxist group over the alleged whitewash.
        .
The SWP’s leadership is under fire for setting up a “kangaroo court” to hear allegations of rape and sexual misconduct dating back to 2008 against the man. The allegations made at the party’s disputes committee were dismissed by a panel of seven and never passed on to the police.
        .
One alleged victim claimed that during the hearing, she was asked if she “liked to have a drink”.
        .
A transcript of the SWP’s annual conference in January, leaked to the Socialist Unity blog, revealed that senior officials pleaded with hundreds of activists to trust in the committee’s verdict and reminded lay members that the party had “no faith in the bourgeois court system to deliver justice”.
        .
On Sunday, scores of party members will gather in London after the leadership was forced to call a special conference to deal with the growing “In Defence of Our Party” faction which wants to challenge the way the allegations were heard and the organisation’s democratic structures.
        .
Another woman – who cannot be named for legal reasons – has told the Guardian that she also faced a welter of inappropriate questions during her own disputes committee hearing after she reported being raped by another man in the party.
        .
The young female member in the latest case says that the senior party member had physically abused her in front of other party members. Then, she claims, in early 2011 the male organiser pressured her into meeting and then raped her in her bedroom.
        .
She felt that if she’d gone to the authorities, she would have be expelled from the party, because of the SWP’s hostility to the police. “If you go to the police you get kicked out automatically,” she said.
        .
Following the incident she quit the party but a local organiser then persuaded her to take her allegations to party’s internal disputes committee.
        .
The senior party member, who could not be contacted, has previously denied the allegations. However when she arrived at the hearing in late spring that year, she says the two judges in the case, Amy Leather and Pat Stack, were from the central committee.
        .
She described the line of questioning during her hour long cross examination as offensive. “[They asked me] had you been drinking? … Are you sure that you said no, and are you sure you didn’t consent. Was he drunk? Because it would be different if he was drunk.”
        .
She says she was also interrogated about her previous sexual history.
        .
During the hearing two other women made allegations against the senior figure including attempted rape and sexual impropriety.
        .
She says she was called back that afternoon and told the verdict. The committee did not rule on the truth of the rape allegation, she said.
        .
She claims she was told the alleged rapist was going to be suspended and encouraged to read up on women’s liberation. She then says she was warned against speaking about the hearing.
        .
“They said, if you go around calling him a rapist, you’ll be in trouble. If you tell anyone, you’ll be in trouble … They didn’t elaborate. They’re not the kind of people to get on the wrong side of.”
        .
She added that she was coming forward two years later because she believes the SWP is a dangerous environment for women: “I want people to know it’s a systemic thing. They’ve done this a few times, covered things up in the interests of the party and it’s a dangerous environment to be in.”
        .
The SWP has denied a cover-up and says they do not recognise this account of the hearing.
        .
But participants in the disputes committee hearing described the line of questioning as “disgusting” and described the suspension as a travesty. “The fact that he got basically a slap on the wrist was just appalling.”
        .
“They [the SWP leadership] are putting the interests of the party above the interests of the women … which I think gives a green light to people to behave in an appalling way to women because there’s now been two signals that you’ll get away with it.”
        .
Responding to the allegations of mishandling an investigation, Charlie Kimber, the party’s national secretary said: “The SWP strongly contests major elements of this account of the disputes committee hearing. The woman concerned brought serious accusations to our attention, we investigated, found against the accused and took prompt action. Those are the facts of this case.”
        .
Kimber said the SWP had taken effective action but said that he couldn’t go into further details as the matter was confidential.
        .
He added: “I hope that after the party’s conference [on Sunday] we can move forward united.”

    2. IBEC (the voice of corporatism) have demanded that Leaving Cert results come continual assessments, in essence training people to be more obedient in secondary school – as a preparation for the working environment. So that they are well schooled in behaviour that is preferred for the bosses.

Also, at the same time we are getting a collective pat on the back for “austerity”.

Of course, that pat on the back, will probably include Noreen O’Sullivan, and France Fitzgerald (who kept her there) in the category of “us”.

      Of course true vulgar-crime & gas-lighting crime & white-collar crime is wrong.
So, that Police investigate & help to prosecute those guilty of above is righteous.
But, it can be that the Peelers are superfluous because they are :
      criminal
      authoritarian
      If so, society must get together to heal itself of falsehood & dispense of the Peelers because society has now self-organised & recognise that retaining the Peelers even as tokens is sabotaging ;
Because, the Peelers are criminal & authoritarian.
Actually, proper policing should have as its goal to be superfluous in that society heals itself of falsehood & dispense of the Peelers because they are superfluous even though they benign.
      .
      The Truth about Life will heal Society ;
      .
      And, part of the Truth is the reminder of something that Alan Larkin did get it right about ;
      Larkin observed ;
Wherever the Irish went, big groups of them always gravitate to being :
      the foreman
      the priest
      the prison warden
      the school master
      the policeman / the peeler

      All of above quoted by Truthist just from memory ;
And, I know that it is not accurately reiterated

Heck, he could have added …
      .
      the Trade Union activist 8-)
      .
Anyway, Larkin elaborated to remark that there is an over-whelming streak in large sections of Irish populace to be policing other people.
That is a destructive vice for society to bear.
      People react negatively to it.
      .
Irish Peelers have been very detrimental to the flip-side of David’s socio-economic model
      vis.
      the so-called Losers
      Yes, when u have so-called Winners ;
      ==> U have so-called Losers.
      .
The Garda-Landlords / Landlord-Gardai & many other authoritarian roles of the Civil Service [ e.g. School Teachers from Co. Kerry, Co. Cork, & other well-noted self-worshiping rural heartlands that despise City folk of Dublin & Cork ] have been very contributive to the destruction of folk from City Centre Dublin people being brutalised & succumbing to heroin-addiction in modern times.

Can anyone here disprove “mathematically perfected economy”

    • “In other words, if we can’t borrow $50,000 to buy a $35,000 home or $50 to buy a $20 tire, then how can we possibly ever suffer ‘inflation’?”

      https://holland4mpe.wordpress.com/2013/02/07/introduction-to-mathematically-perfected-economy/

I have not come across MPE before and so I have read the info in the above attachment. The only thing I cannot find in the concept is what currency is used to repay the obligation of the loan. There is a mention of ‘matching money” to the value of goods, but no mention of the value of labour.

In regards to inflation/deflation not being possible by expansion/contraction of the money supply I disagree.

For the example of a 100,000 dollar home being bought with borrowed money and it being not possible to borrow more or less than 100,000 to buy the house, is demonstrably incorrect. If there are two potential buyers, then the one who can borrow the higher amount will outbid the one with the lesser amount and agree say, to pay 110,000 for the house.
The one who was loaned the extra 10,000 , that is the money supply increased by 10,000 caused the price of the house to rise an equal 10,000 dollars. If there were only one buyer for the house and that buyer was credit worthy for only 90,000 dollars then that is all he could pay for the house. The reduction in the amount of currency causes the house price to fall an equal amount . Thus the creation and withdrawal of credit had a direct effect on inflation/deflation trends.

The observation that the imposition of usury or interest applied to loans adds a burden to the economy that at first is relatively unnoticed but as time goes by is a larger and larger part of the economy until the servicing of the debt with interest payments consumes the productivity of the economy to the exclusion of all else. When this happens to an individual that individual is said to be Bust, insolvent, bankrupt or broke. It is now happening to nations as collectively there people are broke. The world on aggregate has reached that position now so that the world collectively is broke. That is the current system either binds us to perpetual slavery to the bankers or we change the system to one more equitable.

The MPE economy works if there is a medium of exchange acceptable to all the participants. Bills of exchange work and can be discounted for money. But this essay does not suggest what that money is. Bills of exchange or organised into the “real bills ” doctrine are a credit note that is redeemed on payment of the obligation.

The acceptable money that all can agree on is I maintain, gold. So combine MPE with gold /silver as money I think the combination will provide a stable economy. One that charges no interest, but uses a discount system, and that eliminates inflation/deflation but provides for the creation of wealth that is uniformly disbursed to the majority.

Basically the US economy prior to the Imposition of the Federal Reserve.

      • Quote from above attachment

“We have an inherently, irreversibly multiplying sum of debt [by interest], which ultimately engenders collapse, and which, all along the irreversible path to that collapse, imposes ever greater costs of servicing ever greater debt. While I can understand that these costs manifest in ever greater prices as industry has to account for their erosion of profit margins, it is also true that ever less of the circulation can be devoted to commerce, as ever more of the circulation is inherently devoted instead, to servicing debt. Eventually, even all of the circulation is devoted to servicing debt.”

  32. As an aside, let us not forget our culpability in the creation of the terrorist crisis.how long are going to discuss, and waste our time talking about bread and circus distractions before we address the real issues afflicting us.

Central banking is a tool used by the globalists to enslave and control. The money is collected and used to pay for the indoctrination of our leaders and politicians who then carry out heinous policies against innocent peoples. In the meantime a blanket of misinformation is laid over the people to suffocate their ability to reason or think.

Here is one journalist not afraid to tell the truth.

    https://murraydobbin.ca/2017/09/08/a-new-middle-east-policy-for-the-west-get-out/

“”This is what we have done. What our governments have done in our name. And we are still doing it. The West either invaded these countries completely illegally (as in Iraq and Afghanistan) or encouraged and then betrayed dissident movements that our governments knew could not possibly prevail. Or, as in Syria, our governments quickly handed over the revolution to armed gangs and jihadists because they were more likely to prevail against Assad in the West’s goal of regime change. Or in Libya where we violated the UN resolution for a no-fly zone and turned it into an assassination mission.”"

    Speaking of Models

There was only 1 Model in the hyped-up-Event of Charlottesville pre-arranged Race-Baiting Exercise by the Authoritarian Left
    vis,
    the alleged Car
Yes, the only Model in the hyped-up Event was the alleged Car that hit Ms. Heather Heyer
    As u can see, the relatively young Ms. Heyer was no Model at the later stage of her life ;
    She grossly obese.
    .
And, she died of a Heart-Attack
Not from being hit by a model of a car.
    .
No disrespect is intended to the woman by necessary highlighting that she died from heart attack because she obviously grossly obese.

Bitcoin is being found out. The price in China is crashing.

If a peice of paper is backed by nothing of actual value ( this applies also to Twitter shares, unsecured bonds from Canadian banks, as well as funny currencies ), then the slightest concern at all….and there will be a stampede for the exit.

    • Grzegorz Kolodziej

      Hi Deco,
On May 23, 2017 at 4:16 am I wrote (among other things):

“2. “China has nothing to do with Ethereum’s recent rise” – crypto experts disagree with you on that:
      https://bitcoinira.com/news/2017-04-30/ethereum-activities-gain-traction-china-bitcoins-struggle-scrutiny-3258

      https://www.crowdfundinsider.com/2017/05/100122-china-cause-price-ethereum-surge/

Basically everywhere I look, the crypto experts do attribute Ethereum’s rise to China – which seemed obvious to me even before I looked, because the capital outflows from China have to go s o m e w h e r e (how much property can one buy in London).”

And last Sunday I wrote – but WordPress won’t let me post the link:

“This week, the Chinese authorities acted on their much-anticipated crackdown on cryptocurrencies by banning initial coin offerings (ICOs – the equivalent of stock market initial public offerings, or IPOs). This was preceded by the Chinese government’s January 2017 meeting with bitcoin-related Chinese executives. This the strongest regulatory challenge so far to the burgeoning market for digital token sales.

The People’s Bank of China said on its website that it had completed investigations into ICOs, and will strictly punish offerings in the future while penalizing legal violations in ones already completed. The regulator said that those who have already raised money must provide r e f u n d s.

What is even more important, the People’s Bank of China also said digital token financing and trading platforms are prohibited from doing conversions of coins with fiat currencies (in other words, digital tokens are NO LONGER CURRENCY in China), followed by the Chinese financial publication Caixin that authorities plan to shut key bitcoin exchanges in China.

This reminds me of 1933, when President Roosevelt signed Executive Order 6102, “forbidding the hoarding of gold coin, gold bullion, and gold certificates within the continental United States” – except for the fact that the Patriot Act notwithstanding, no US government has ever introduced censorship so severe as the current communist China (if you can basically exercise a total control over the content of the social media posts, as China has done, then blocking your access to bitcoin in China would be a doddle for the Communist Party in China).”

“Cryptocurrencies have become popular in China due to the Chinese government’s stringent control of the yuan – as the Chinese government has been artificially devaluing the currency for trading purposes, affluent individuals in China have found a more stable and accessible alternative to the yuan in cryptocurrencies; so predictably, the Chinese government’s stringent control of the cryptos would shift the interest from the cryptos to other assets, such as gold backed yuan.

There is another problem – if China continues and intensifies its anti-crypto policies, most crypto miners would have to find another country with low electricity costs (China has an abundance of cheap energy and hardware, which facilitates crypto mining), where they can set up their mining hardware again (after all, it might get confiscated by the Chinese authorities). That cannot be, i.e., a major Bitcoin trader Japan, as the crypto mining cost in Japan is more than THREE TIMES the mining cost in China (Japan’s trading volume grew from 1% to 6% – due to:

      a) Chinese crackdown on crypto-currencies

      b) Quantitive easing leading to extremely low-interest? rates, which have occasionally even become negative, meaning that it costs an individual to save money).

As in China, crypto-currencies? in Japan became viewed as a more stable asset than the native currency.”

“In January 2017, IG Markets chief market strategist Chris Weston said, “Some 90% of bitcoin trading is taking place in China at the moment and if you compare the rise in value of bitcoin against the performance of the yuan against the US dollar, then you will see there is a clear correlation”.

Well, if there was a correlation between weak yuan, strong dollar and the bitcoin bubble, then gold backed yuan will correlate with weak dollar – pricking the cryptobubble (as the money will move to gold yuan – provided of course that it becomes the world’s trading currency for oil, which is a big ask, as in keeping with Spykman’s rimland theory, that would require China to oust the US from controlling the maritime routes and the so called chokepoints).”

““So the real story behind bitcoin is not its rampant adoption and use in the world market. The real story is to do with speculators, capital outflows and bitcoin being used as a vehicle to get money out of China.”

The fact is that China’s debt is higher than the US’s debt.
China’s debt surpasses 300% of GDP – $29 trillion in overall debt; compared to $19 trillion in the US’s overall debt – in China, that’s corporate debt alone! By the end of 2017, bad debt in China will hit $7.6 trillion (68% of GDP), which by the way shows how much the Chinese authorities are lying (this will make the bad debt ratio 34% of all loans, as opposed to 5.3% they proffer).

Thus the Chinese investment in bitcoin was just – like the Chinese investement in the real estate in London or San Fransisco – the way to rescue the Chinese assets from the inevitable debt bubble burst in China (over the last decade, an estimated $3.8 trillion in capital has left China, $1 trillion last year – while net foreign direct investment over the same period of time has amounted to $1.3 trillion, leaving the country with a net loss)”

British nationalist politicians came over to Poland and gave a 10 min interview for a small local Warsaw television on the migrant crisis and freedom of speech in Britain (it’s an interview about Britain more than about Poland).
Some of their views (both of the British politicians and the TV reporter) may seem controversial, most of them trivial (I think that many of us here – and that includes Mr McWilliams – talked about all of that many times and on a higher level than them – plus I personally think that the interview conveys a very simplified image of Poland because its politics are so much more than only about the migrant crisis),
      b u t
you are big boys and girls now and you can make up your own mind:
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TyeqpAOpaSA

All I can say is that from my experience of walking in London and Warsaw – yep, London is f…g dirty, especially the sight of the mice on the platform was a shocker to me when I first saw it waiting for my last tube to Greenwich where I shortly lived.
Btw, I think that Ireland has got much cleaner for the last 15 years: I remember that around 2005, Dublin city centre on Saturday night and Sunday morning was full of puke and chips on the pavements.
I wonder if that was the reason why so many people beyond the Pale didn’t like it?

You need to do better research on Bitcoin Deco – forget about the current ups and downs in price – they are not important in the grand scheme of things.

Go back and look at the structure of the protocol, what makes it different and what problems it can solve in computer science that couldn’t be solved before – i.e. the ‘double spend’ problem – which leads to the complete elimination of parasitic middle men over time – that process is just starting and will accelerate shortly.

That’s the most important paragraph I have ever written about Bitcoin on this blog.

The price of Bitcoin is up $500 by the way in the last few hours – not for the fainthearted or the procrastinators on here, but a man of your intelligence will be able to get your head around it Deco.

I have to admit of all the dangerous people who promised to deliver peace to the European continent, through a unitary political entity, perhaps Juncker is the most amatuerish.

Louis XIV, Bonaparte, The Prussian Kaiser, Hitler, Stalin, all had cruel vindictive, ruthlessness as their chosen path to “union”.

Juncker is merely like them, in his complete disdain for people, and his remoteness from their actual conditions. Plumping down to another four course meal, washed down with plenty of Beaujolais, as the unemployed Greek youth starve in the corner of an apartment, desperately hoping for better than another deal that secures it for the 1%.

Perhaps it is because Juncker is a tool, in every sense of the word, that he comes across as missing the ruthlessness of his various predecessors.

Ireland needs to do as Michael Collins advocated in 1920 – cause as much mayhem as possible. Be completely unpredictable.

Unfortunately we are stuck with a government that contains hopeless ministers, and an utterly self-serving opposition, including several peronages who would be in prison, if the state was run properly.

So, women have a responsibility to herself & girls & women in her care that they dress & behave appropriately in those certain settings.
