Well said cbweb but snowballs in Hell will freeze over before the beneficiaries of the Great CashHeist from Anglo Irish are tapped for taxes.
There must be many thousands of farmers and landowners sitting very pretty right now-unless they bought bank shares with their gains.
The gang in power now have done an incredible sweetheart deal with the public sector unions.
who is going to pay the taxes to fill this galactic "Black Hole"?
The unemployed ??

One question and we should have tons of questions on this:

Not everyone lost out in the meltdown. Presumably there's a financial breadcrumb trail in the present scandals surrounding the DDDA.

It would be interesting to know in the case of the Glass Bottle site transaction, Anglo being on the DDDA ,who the beneficiaries of the €400 million were? Were they clients of Anglo?

For taxation purposes it would also be interesting to have a list of beneficiaries of the Tiger, eg farmers who sold development land,
to see exactly into whose pockets money went.

The audit currently being undergone by loans transferring into NAMA would have this information. Can we have it? Taxpayers deserve to know.

Lastly, there has been a significant restructuring of wealth in this country during the Celtic Tiger and now post Tiger, especially given taxpayer liability through NAMA.

Isn't it about time we saw a restructuring of the taxation models in Ireland to reflect this new reality, particularly with regard to the relative taxation burden shared by the poor against that shared by the rich.

Have a great weekend:)

We do have the tax exile diapora likes of O Brien, Bono, Drumm et al and there are the list of tax breaks for the rich you mention.....plus the hidden NAMA taxpayer tax jumping by the billion as we speak, plus mini NAMA for the local ghost estate developer.

Simple tax of poverty/taxpayer to pay for the excesses of the rich who don't pay tax.

We can begin by sharing the burden, protect taxpayers from being pillaged by the rich! NAMA being the biggest hidden tax of them all.

Re the greeks:
"Greece's black market, or shadow economy, accounts for 25% to 50% of all economic activity here. That's huge! We've met taxi drivers, olive merchants, and even restaurant workers who haven't given us receipts for our purchases -- a problem that reportedly extends to white-class professionals such as doctors and lawyers. Incredibly, according to the Investment Bank of Greece, 95% of Greek taxpayers declare less than $40,000 in income.

One line of thinking here is that if the government can figure out how to tax the tax evaders (and it's trying to implement an incentive system for receipts), Greece's tax revenue would jump significantly, easing its budget woes. If it works, this would be a relatively painless improvement for the country -- and one that could cause the world to reassess its opinion of Greece.

That's what we're already doing, so stay tuned to FoolGreece2010.com to learn more as we do."

We are too late to do a Greek revival scenario in Ireland.
Ireland 30 years a go had a similar black economy as Greece.
Only the PAYE paid taxes.
Today the once "black" parts in Ireland ,have been relentlessly pursued by Revenue, and Fianna Fail have encouraged compliance by low capital gains taxes for the wealthy, virtually no inheritance taxes for the same people; legitimized by Fianna Fail-with a plethora of tax breaks for cronies, are the various activities such as: hotels/building/ high rise car parks/ shopping centers/old folks homes private hospitals etc etc.
Nobody left to tax really! -unlike Greece.

Anglo itself needs to be handed over to the IMF for full investigation and full disclosure of how it got into the mess and how best to wind it down.

@Ruairi,

"Meanwhile, the bank's chief executive Mike Aynsley has warned that Anglo needs up to €9bn from the State to keep it afloat.

Mr Aynsley said, however, that the costs of liquidating the bank could cost up to double that amount. "

Anglo is still a rogue bank, They're all peddling the same scam/con trick that the cost of liquidating costs double cost of saving it. Dukes, Lenihan, Cowen, even David Murphy of RTE peddle the same lie.

Lets look at the argument to default on the Anglo bondholders and get out of the euro. Let NAMA go the way of any bankrupt debtor.

The NAMA scam is not a solution, its slow suffocation of the Irish economy. Let the bank go bust as part of a cleanup of the Irish euro account.

Lets get support to extricate from the euro, perhaps even support to deal with payment of percentage of the bondholder losses.

If not support to extricate from the euro, then at least get the IMF in to provide financial backup to have a quick and clean solution instead of crazy NAMA scam.

Sarkozy and Merkel have just agreed a deal to involve the IMF in a solution for Greece. Fair dues to the Greeks, they played it better than us. We should have gone down a similar road.
