Hi Ruairi

Before we put that in we were getting dozens of spam mails a day (now we just get dozens of genuine emails a week).

In any event, if we can't start the folks at the helm doing some basic arithmetic, then they don't have a hope with the more complicated stuff :)

I know you are mostly having a go at the bankers and polticos, but if anyone does have any complaints or suggestions about the site, please feel free to email webmaster@davidmcwilliams.ie.

David,

on your contact page http://www.davidmcwilliams.ie/contact-david

in order to avoid bots (and FF TDs and bankers it seems), one must fill in the following sum: -
"The sum of 19 and 18 is:"

I thought dialogue was vital. If you insist on people doing sums before they contact you (and getting the answer right), then you won't be getting many emails from Lenihan, Cowen, harney or any of the banking executives anytime soon................

Until we have equitable budget and until we have an equitable NAMA / Good Bank / Bad Bank or whatever vehicle is required, then there is no way that the government should be going after public service pay.

They should go after ineffectiveness and also sick days; peeling the onion slowly as they go. If they don't peel it correctly, they risk pissing off workers who HAVE worked hard e.g. frontline workers and treating them the same as back room staff. That in my view, is ideologically the same as asking me to pay for NAMA, when I have been driving an old car and reading DMcW for as long as he has been writing. I will not pay for the wrongs of others.
Deco said (tongue in cheek perhaps) that not paying tax is wrong. Not always folks, not always. Its a sin against your brother, sure, but its also a WASTE to give it to a government like this. And yes, there are loads of ways to avoid the bogeyman.
Until leadership is shown, and the real fat is trimmed from the bone, why should any law-abiding and innocent (of debts) parties give a flying f**k for NAMA or any of the current burden.

Hmmmm,

A lot of talk about lowering the drink-DRIVING limit.

Looking at the gaps and grey areas in the NAMA legislation, it looks like we should have a zero alcohol and drugs limit in Dáil and Seanad Eireann. I say breathalyse them in spotchecks, because clearly some of them have been 'over the limit' when this was legislation and the bank guarantee were being dreamt up.

Not Long til someone says that Tim!

I've been wondering if anyone else felt the same!

For the duration of the 'Celtic Tiger' I've worked long hours, constant demanding deadlines as a furniture designer for the nouveau superrich gombeens designing them the ridiculously over sized - over specced - impersonal interiors to their houses. I even started thinking of myself as Robin Hood - Steal from the rich - Give to the Poor (That would be the cabinet makers/joiners in the workshop)

My income at the end of it all remained substantially less than yours. (50K) - Never once did I think it was prudent to by a house at the massively inflating prices (I could understand why those with family and needs similar needed to find a way to buy at the extragavant prices tho- they were preyed on unmercifully by the ones who now have their snouts at the NaAMA pig trough!) Now furniture is a luxury - but a balanced economy should surely sustain a high quality furniture manufacturing company..... basically in one month the furniture industry hit a wall - Who built that wall? Banks shutdown any overdraft allowances & Revenue came in from the other side and demanded any tax due....the scissors movement to irish manufacturing!

Despite this we mangaed to get company running again for two months but the economic scene for mnaufacturing & jobs had got no better - in fact had worsened!

So I'm still waiting for redundancy.......not sure I'll ever see it.... and I've been trying to re-start as a sole trader!

I'm one of the lucky ones - I have no mortgage - I've never had a credit card, and two minor bank loans I've repayed, I don't have any big outgoings except rent. WHY?
Because NOT ONCE did I ever trust in this country's big bubble economy.......

AND NOW I"M BEEN FORCED TO PAY FOR THE PROFLIGACY OF THE BANSTERS/GAMBLERS' LOSSES? "F"YOU!

That is exactly how I feel!!! And even still I'm trying to make things work by getting my head down and working hard at whatever comes my way! But if this joke of a government keeps sticking it to the people 'to take the necessary/responsible/deserved pain' they want to mete out to the honest workers of all classes.... I can see it country descending into chaos....

but maybe I should have just played along with the 'Bubble' game.... maybe there aren't that many of us who didn't play along with that game....

Yeah! Pretty Pissed!

Tim and Wills: Thank you for making those meanings clear. The targets and the charges need to be specific if we are to attack NAMA with a reasoned case against it.

Colin_in_exile, I am horrified! Did you think I was calling you excrement???

I Did not and I am very sorry.

I was referring to the "excrement" of yet another "Its all about Tim being in FF" thread.

Genuinely sorry for the misunderstanding; I try always to play the ball, not the man, as it were.
