Incentive for Employers

With the increasing numbers of people on Social Welfare, the government should introduce grants to businesses to employ a person for a minimum of 1 year. The grant could be the equivalent of 50% of the cost of social welfare benefit for the year. Additionally the employer could be offered a grant of 30% of the cost of social welfare benefit if they commit to a second year. If an employer has committed to two years with an employee and invested time and money in training, more than likely they would keep the employee employed.
The grant could be paid on a weekly basis to the employer or can be paid at the end of each year of the contract. The scheme should be open to employers over a one year period only. The details of the scheme would need to be looked at to prevent employers letting staff go and rehiring to avail of the grant but measures can be taken to prevent this.
